looking good... A group shot of the lovely mamas that attended the banquet

It’s been another great year in the MOMS Club of Statesboro!  There are currently 35 members, many of which came together at our yearly banquet.  It was a great time for us moms to get dolled up, enjoy some adult conversation, and good food.  Hope to see you next year!

~Earth Mamas~

Our newest club/playgroup  within our club is Earth Mamas!   Come join us and enjoy some conversation in between all the kid wrangling.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the first meeting, topics ranged from dealing with breastfeeding issues (especially teaching nursing manners!) to getting started with vegetable gardening to going organic with-out going broke. In the future we’re planning to do field trips to nearby farms, cloth diapering how-to’s and even demos on making your own laundry detergent. If you’re already a crunchy mommy or just thinking of dipping a toe in the hippie pool – come check it out!
Mom $$$ tips
Here is a summary of the great tips from our moms for stretching your dollars in ‘09
*Limit trips to Wal-mart to once or twice a month and HAVE A LIST!
*Deep freezers are great for storing bulk meat and extra meals you have prepared.
* Stock up on essentials at places like Save-a-Lot, Dollar Tree, Discount Foods, etc.
*The slow cooker is great for saving money — and dinner’s ready when you walk in the door.
 *Be creative with the items you purchase and try to stretch them over a couple of meals.
*Bi-Lo is great for their weekly BOGO specials.  Clip coupons online and in the newspaper — Bi-Lo offers double coupons.
*Having a weekly menu plan and a list are essential.
*Try to have a “poor man’s meal” once a week with beans, rice and cornbread. It is easy to prepare, cheap and filling.
*Eat fruit for dessert.
*Make your dryer sheets last longer by cutting them in half.  A half sheet works just as well as a whole one.
Let’s Eat!
A home cooked meal is great, but not having to cook or clean up is a nice treat too!  So, to go along with our January resolution for getting the most for our money…
What are some great dining ”deals” in the ‘boro?
For example:
Every Wednesday, kids eat for .99 at Applebees.  Are there other deals around town?  Let us know.
New Year, New Goals
January 1… almost everyone does it….
NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS
Whether it’s to lose weight, start exercising, or to get organized,  someone else has made the same resolution.  One of the great things about MOMS Club is talking to other moms who have been there/done that.  There is always something new to learn from one another, so each month we’ll focus on a goal and give tips  on how to achieve that goal.
This month’s goal is:
 “To Stretch the Household Budget” / “To Stay Within a Budget”.
What do you do to help your dollar go farther?  Do you create weekly menus?  Do you only use cash?  What are you doing to get the most for your money?  Let us know.  Leave a comment and check back for others’ responses.
Children’s Playgroups
We have playgroups for all ages, from birth to school age children.  It’s a great way for your child to meet and play with other children.  It also gives our moms a chance to get to know other moms and share the experiences of parenthood.
Little Tykes Playgroup– A weekly playgroup for children from birth to approximately two and a half years old.
Preschool Playgroup – This group is for children approximately two and a half years old up to children that may be attending pre-k and meets weekly.
School Age Playgroup – A bimonthly group for kids pre-k and up.
Please post about your experiences in any playgroup. (No names or locations please.)
The Sunshine Committee
Any time a mother needs a helping hand, our group of women combine efforts to provide that family with a full meal and dessert. Reasons for the meal support could be due to an illness in the family, a personal crisis, or the birth of a child.
Also, this committee keeps track of all of our mothers’ birthdays!
