Back to School Bash

Wow, it’s hard to believe we’ve been back in school a month now! In celebration of the big event, MOMs Club of Statesboro held a “Back to School Bash”. What a great afternoon it was, filled with food, friends, and fun!
Statesboro Regional Library Story Time
Looking for something to do with your little one on Wednesday mornings? The Statesboro Regional Library has a story time at 10:30am almost every Wednesday throughout the school year. If you want to double-check that they are having it on the day you are planning to attend you can call them at (912) 764-1344. Don’t have a chance to go? You could always call their Dial-A-Story line. Call at any time day or night to hear a fairy tale, fable or adventure story. The Statesboro Regional Library Dial-A-Story line number is (912) 764-1351. A different three to five minute story is featured each week! If the line is busy, someone else is listening to a story – please wait and redial in a few minutes.
Earth Mamas
Earth Mamas meets once a month to discuss organic and natural ways of doing things. Some of the things we do have been to make our own cleaning supplies and take field trips to local farms. Whether you are already immersed in the lifestyle or just want to make a few changes to be more green please join us! In our MOMS Club of Statesboro, GA newsletter keep a lookout for our monthly facts, tips and challenges!
Mom $$$ tips
Here is a summary of the great tips from our moms for stretching your dollars in ’09
*Limit trips to Wal-mart to once or twice a month and HAVE A LIST!
*Deep freezers are great for storing bulk meat and extra meals you have prepared.
* Stock up on essentials at places like Save-a-Lot, Dollar Tree, Discount Foods, etc.
*The slow cooker is great for saving money — and dinner’s ready when you walk in the door.
*Be creative with the items you purchase and try to stretch them over a couple of meals.
*Bi-Lo is great for their weekly BOGO specials. Clip coupons online and in the newspaper — Bi-Lo offers double coupons.
*Having a weekly menu plan and a list are essential.
*Try to have a “poor man’s meal” once a week with beans, rice and cornbread. It is easy to prepare, cheap and filling.
*Eat fruit for dessert.
*Make your dryer sheets last longer by cutting them in half. A half sheet works just as well as a whole one.
Let’s Eat!
A home cooked meal is great, but not having to cook or clean up is a nice treat too! So, to go along with our January resolution for getting the most for our money…
What are some great dining ”deals” in the ‘boro?
For example:
Every Wednesday, kids eat for .99 at Applebees. Are there other deals around town? Let us know.
Children’s Playgroups
We have playgroups for all ages, from birth to school age children. It’s a great way for your child to meet and play with other children. It also gives our moms a chance to get to know other moms and share the experiences of parenthood.
Little Tykes Playgroup– A weekly playgroup for children from birth to approximately two and a half years old.
Preschool Playgroup – This group is for children approximately two and a half years old up to children that may be attending pre-k and meets weekly.
Early Elementary Playgroup – A group for kids pre-k through first grade that meets monthly for a field trip.
Please post about your experiences in any playgroup. (No names or locations please.)
Monthly Mixer
Once a month we hold a business meeting with all of our members to discuss upcoming events. Often we have a speaker from the community sharing with us a broad range of topics.
Moms Night Out
Hard working stay-at-home moms need a night out on the town with their friends. We enjoy this activity once a month whether it is at a movie, a restaurant or any other place where we can have fun together.
Holiday Parties
We plan a small party for most of the major holidays. We do games or activities, have some snacks and a whole lot of fun!
